Reicom in railways


Reicom, together with Firema, its industrial and strategic Partner in the railways business, offer a scalable integrated solution, a new technology capable to solve completely the existing issues of this sector. In fact, Reicom radio technology and Clancast™ distributed intelligence find their natural and profitable application within railways world. Reicom offers a system completely integrated in its technological architecture. This system turns into active and intelligent every single device, from the simple LED display up to the most advanced LCD-TFT, allowing to obtain modular and scalar products capable to successfully solve problems of different nature and complexity. 

An integrated and organic approach to railways challenges: infotainment systems for passengers (PIS), telemetry and remote diagnostic systems, video surveillance, real time high speed audio and video links from ground to train and vice versa, cable replacement. All of these find its natural and optimal solution within Reicom technological structure. 

• A new hardware accelerator, compliant H.264, capable to process, in real time and full duplex, complex video flow in D1 format (complete PAL) @ 25 fps and RGB24 colour depth 
• A real time differential BUS, entirely developed by Reicom, capable to cover long distances aboard of the train and to transmit, without disturbs, real time data, both discrete and streaming. A  product capable to connect together every device, LED display, speaker, microphone, etc… making redundant the separated links to the control units and reducing the amount of wiring required to control the various devices. 
• A new generation of wide band radio technology, designed to correctly operate in tunnels and at high speed. A radio technology, type SDR (Software Defined Radio), with military spec,   integrated on an extended range board, modular and hot swap, specifically designed for railways application. A radio subsystem that can connect, with continuity and stability, a high speed train to every kind of ground networks, both in open field and tunnels, delivering high bandwidth services, but also real time data for telemetry and remote diagnostic. 
• Revolutionary communication stack, completely distributed, capable to create, instantaneously, a communication network in the field, independently from its conformation and topology. A group of intellectual properties, subjected to international patent, capable to create redundant network to transmit various type of synchronous audio and video data. 

All these technologies and solutions creates a revolutionary system, thanks to which the single train naturally becomes part of a much more complicated system. This latter one is fitted with an enabling technology that can communicates enormous quantity of data both with ground structure or other moving trains. An intelligent Mesh, adaptive and distributed, allows to ignore and to abstract the peculiar characteristics of the single device. This makes them like identical cellula that cooperates all together within the same organism.

The train, in fact, can constantly talk to the ground DCT, regardless of the working conditions. The connection is stable and reliable, both in open field or tunnel; thanks to suitable antennas, it is possible to optimise the line coverage up to few hundred of kilometres. All this is achievable with very small electromagnetic emission, tenth of time less the current transmission of the modern mobile phone and GSM-R. A solution that saves big money, simplifying the structure required to operate the various services and increasing the robustness and reliability in the course of time; meanwhile it can deliver innovative services in the field of onboard system information and safety systems, as:

• transmit the video of the train TVCC system to the ground;
• send telemetry and remote diagnostic data to ground;
• update multimedia contest aboard of the train while this latter one is moving in open space or in a tunnel;
• transmit news, football match and any other event in real time aboard of the train with TV quality;
• distribute a real connectivity from and to internet;
• manage dangerous and emergency situation in real time, with massive richness of details and information.

The same system can transmit fundamental information for the correct functioning of the railway and the control of the territory, all of this in real time and secure mode. Hence it is possible to:

• log data from the boxes and sensors distributed along the railway line
• retransmit critical data (double control)
• operate control automation in the field
• log environmental data (temperature, pressure, etc..)
• monitor critical sited and security zones
• manage access control systems in critical sites
